Three factors compound. Humidity: coastal humidity runs 10 to 20 percent higher than inland, which carries airborne irritants farther and creates conditions for mold growth on bathroom ceilings, closet walls, and behind furniture. Salt-air particulates: microscopic salt particles drift in from the Atlantic and settle on every interior surface and inside the air handler. Older equipment: many Hobe Sound homes have original air handlers from the 1990s or 2000s with basic MERV 6 filtration. The combination produces indoor air that is harder on allergies, asthma, and respiratory health than it needs to be.
The REME HALO mounts inside the air handler and treats the air in every room the AC reaches. It uses RGF's REME Cell technology to create low-level airborne hydrogen peroxide (non-toxic at the levels produced) that actively reduces bacteria, viruses, mold spores, pollutants, and odors. For coastal homes, it also helps reduce the salt-residue feel that some homeowners describe.
For coastal Hobe Sound homes especially, humidity control is the most important IAQ intervention. We typically pair the REME HALO with a whole-home dehumidifier integrated with the AC ductwork. The dehumidifier pulls moisture out of the air independent of the cooling cycle, which means the home stays at a comfortable 45 to 50 percent indoor RH even when the AC isn't running hard. That alone makes the home feel meaningfully more comfortable at the same thermostat setting and dramatically reduces mold and musty smell.
